A brand new farmers’ market is coming to Thrapston. From 6th September 2014, the market town of Thrapston will host a monthly farmers’ market selling locally grown, reared and produced food and drink. The market will run on the first Saturday of each month, from 9am to 1pm, along the market cobbles on the High Street.

Thrapston Farmers’ Market is being set up and run by a small, experienced team in Thrapston. The team is passionate about supporting small producers from the surrounding area and offering the local community a chance to buy fresh, local food straight from the person who
grew it, reared or made it. A key aim is to create a lively community event every month, bringing everyone together into Thrapston town centre.

It will be a true farmers’ market, aiming to meet the requirements of FARMA, which is the regulating body for farmers’ markets in the UK: sellers will have to be from the local area, as close to Thrapston as possible. They must be growing, producing or rearing the food and drink themselves - not ‘buying it in’. Products which have been made, like baked goods, meals and drinks, for example, must use as many locally sourced ingredients as possible. This way, the shopper knows that the goods they are buying are truly local.

The organising team is hard at work sourcing local producers and has already confirmed a number of fantastic stalls selling delicious products which are new to the market and right on the doorstep. They are keen for Thrapston Farmers’ Market to have an identity of its own,
and that it introduces new and exciting products to taste, buy and enjoy. Already confirmed to take a stall at the new market is Philip Wilks from Brigstock Brewhouse, a micro-brewery based just 6 miles away from Thrapston.

Philip is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about brewing, starting in the 1980s as a hobby. Having perfected his range of beers, Philip is ready to share his passion for what he does so well. Try his Potter’s Ruin, Autumn Gold or Brigstock Gold beers (to name a few) - all made with natural spring water sourced from a spring in Brigstock. Meet Philip at the market each
month and hear about how he makes such a good brew!

You can also sample delicious cider from Saxby’s Cider - made from apples grown and pressed just down the road near Wellingborough.

Nature’s Fayre, a Thrapstonbased producer of honey, preserves, chutneys, pickles, dressings and sauces, will also appear each month. Tracy uses her own honey from bees which pollenate
across Woodford, Clopton and Wadenhoe to sweeten her creations which include gooseberry preserve, raspberry and honey preserve and a chocolate lovers’ marmalade! Tracy grows the fruit herself and regularly introduces new products to the range which includes savoury recipes.

Specialist nursery, Raunds Herbs, will be selling fresh, potted herbs to grow and cook with.
Other stalls joining the market include a local goats cheese producer, Nene View Dairy in Stanwick, Fleurfield Vineyard wines from Brixworth, and Doggie Paws - a producer of all-natural, locally made, healthy dog treats. You will also be able to buy local meat, locally grown fruit and vegetables, pork pies, and a rather special selection of artisan bread, baked fruit pies and puddings by Donna Lulu Cooks, who will be showcasing her talent for the first time at the market.

Mytton Meats of Oundle will be attending with their home-reared pork and delicious sausages. They will be offering freshly cooked street food throughout the market so that shoppers can enjoy a hearty breakfast and sample their delicious meat. The Little Soup Kitchen will be coming along in their signature vintage Citroën van to serve fresh and healthy home-made soups.

Thrapston Farmers’ Market is still keen to hear from local producers, so if you have something special to offer please get in touch with the organising team by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots.
