The world’s most famous steam locomotive,
The Flying Scotsman, is travelling the
country, having just undergone a ten-year
restoration programme to the tune of £4.2
million. Two of these rail tours are scheduled
to pass through Northamptonshire, the Welland
Valley and Rutland this summer on Saturday
4th & Saturday 25th June.

Times to be confirmed nearer the date but the
magnificent locomotive will stream through
Wellingborough, Kettering, Corby and Gretton,
cross the Harringworth Viaduct on its way to
Oakham before finishing in Melton Mowbray.

The expected time for The Flying Scotsman
to steam across the Harringworth Viaduct is
10am. Visitors are encouraged to park in the
large car park planned adjacent to the Viaduct
to avoid traffic chaos and walk up to a higher
vantage point, if they choose. Parking will be
is a large field on Seaton Road in Harringworth,
NN17 3AF, and there will signs to direct visitors.
Refreshments will be available in the village
and an exhibition on the history of the Viaduct
in the Church on each date. It is worth noting
on Saturday 25th June visitors can remain in the
area as the Harringworth Annual Village Fête
and Car Boot Sale is on the same day, with a
BBQ, a bar and afternoon teas.

Big crowds are expected all along route,
but please remember to stay safe and not to
trespass onto railway or private property, if you
are planning to see The Flying Scotsman steam
