The sitting service is a pilot scheme that has been developed as a partnership between Crossroads East Midlands and Northamptonshire Carers with funding from the National Gardens Scheme Volunteering Fund. The service, launching soon, is free to access and is intended to provide a short-break to those who have a caring responsibility for a husband, wife, partner, parent, relative or friend. It is available to adults and young carers living in Northamptonshire who are caring for someone with low-level support needs.

Support takes the form of befriending provided by volunteers enabling the carer to take time away from their caring role. Volunteers are not be able to provide personal care to the person they are supporting. A support session can run from between two and three hours.

Interested in volunteering?

We are always looking for volunteers able to commit a few hours a week. Volunteering involves meeting the same person regularly and may include undertaking activities within the person’s home environment or outside of it. You don’t need any qualifications to become a volunteer as we provide an induction, training and on-going support. We will also reimburse any out-of-pocket expenses you incur.
