The mild weather allowed us to pursue outdoor activities well into autumn.
A last bike ride to Cranford for Sunday breakfast at The Old Forge was
made even more special as we could enjoy it outside, and it has been a
pleasure to observe nature and hear the owls calling on early morning walks
in our countryside. The days are getting darker and you are reminded that
winter is just around the corner as you breathe in the sweet smell of decay
and watch the fireworks of yellows and reds before your eyes.

Fireworks of a different kind are, of course, on the agenda for November
and many bonfire events will take place in our villages with wonderful displays.
On page 10 you can read about a bonfire night with a difference at
Boughton House and how to win tickets to the spectacular Gunpowder Plot
and Treason.

Many of our historic houses and market towns will also form the backdrop of
Christmas markets and workshops. You will be able to make presents of
felt, wreaths, cakes and table decorations; just look to the pages ahead for
inspiration. An abundance of Christmas tree festivals and crafts fairs in our
schools and churches will help us buy presents made in our community and
support our local businesses and charities at the same time.

On pages 114-115 Cransley Hospice appeals for our support; one of the
ways is to give funds allocated to Christmas cards and, for the third time
running, I shall pledge the Village Connect allocation to this worthy cause
and encourage you to do the same.

As you grow older and your children fly the nest, you get to appreciate more
the joy of having your whole family reunited. We have made such fond
memories this year and shall treasure being together again this Christmas.
From the bottom of my heart, whether your loved ones are with you or far
away, may I wish you all a Merry Christmas
