The Corby resident Arek Luc will exhibit his conceptual garden design ‘I Disappear’ at the Hampton Court Flower Show. Arek has already won sponsorship from Urban Roof Gardens, Eden Landscape Projects, Tandee Nursery and Podington Garden Centre but will need more sponsors before the event in July. Arek is originally from Gubin in Poland, spending most of his childhood and adolescence outdoors or playing drums. His band 3:40 won several heavy metal festivals in Poland and he has named his exhibition project after a song from his favourite band, Metallica. After ‘I Disappear’ is a rectangle, with three sides bordered by climbing vegetables and trained fruit trees; the contained area has a selection of vegetables within. Predominantly, a seated human figure is reflecting his/her work whilst breathing in the purified air created through plant photosynthesis. The themes emphasise how, by producing our own crops, we can be self-supporting, besides contributing to purifying the atmosphere and drawing attention to the continued loss of allotment land for building. All is life - we all depend on each other, plants and animals, including humans. The garden is designed to make us aware of this, as a sensible solution in a practical way.
