DRACULA - The Real Story

One of the most enduring characters of literature for a century and more is undoubtedly Count Dracula. Dramatically portrayed in movies by Christopher Lee, Gary Oldman & Bela Logosi; instantly recognizable in flowing black cloak, with blazing eyes and of course-the fangs!

But how many of us have experienced the Count as his author created him? We think of the Dracula story as purely horror when it is in fact closer to literature. A love story combined with a detective mystery as Professor Van Helsing and his friends pit their wits against their adversary in order to track him down before he escapes.

It is, of course, a frightening sort of literature which sends many a shiver down the spine, but much is left to the imagination; that is perhaps the secret of its enduring fascination?

To celebrate Stoker’s gothic masterpiece Harrowden Books of Finedon will be hosting an evening of all things Dracula, all things Gothic, and all things Steampunk. Steampunk *being a sub-culture of Victorian Science Fiction which embraces many of the technical and imaginative aspects found within the Dracula story.

The event is aimed at a wide variety of age groups (over 16s though please) so there will be something for everyone including drama, dance, visual arts, and music by Northampton band Gladstone, together with Birthrite from the West Midlands. There will also be stalls run by independent traders where you can browse and buy alternative jewellery, clothing & accessories.

The event will be held at Finedon Community Centre, 7pm for a 7.30pm start on Saturday 19th October.

Tickets, which will include a light buffet, but please bring your own drink, are available at £10 each from Harrowden Books.
