Success for St Peter’s School at the 104th Kettering & District Annual Eisteddfod Competition

The children of St Peter’s School have again achieved results to be proud of in the 104th Kettering and District Eisteddfod Festival. The Competition is held annually during March and is open to all ages, covering over 160 classes split between Music and Speech and Drama. The aim of the Festival is to ‘Celebrate the Arts in Style’, and this is certainly an aim successfully achieved again this year.

St Peter’s School Choir swept the board at this year’s choir competitions, being awarded the Corby Male Voice Choir Trophy (for highest overall marks and overall winners of the Choirs open competition), and The Leonard Shield (overall winner of the Hymn Singing competitions). Head of Music, Mrs Julie Cruickshank, was thrilled with the result and commented that although this year’s choir is one of the smallest the School has entered, well trained voices and frequent rehearsals together with very committed pupils has made a recipe for success this year.

Group Speakers represented the School with great aplomb and were awarded high marks in recognition of their very high standards. The Year Five & Six group who have been working on poems with teacher, Mrs Dreyer, were awarded first place. Second place was awarded to the Year Three and Four Group, missing first place by one mark! The Year Six ensemble came second in their ensemble competition. Much to their delight, Year Four came first in their competition, with Year Five in second place. St Peter’s School Ocarina players also swept the board in the Ocarina classes in both group and solo performances.

There were numerous individual successes for pupils across the Speech and Drama categories, and also in the Instrumental, Solo and Vocal categories. There were several first, second and third places, and many children also achieved commended, distinction or outstanding marks. In addition, a pleasing number of special awards and trophies were awarded to St Peter’s School pupils across all of the categories.

As if all of that wasn’t enough good news, three pupils were asked to perform at the  Kettering Eisteddfod Celebration Prize-winners Concert which is held at the end of the competition week - a high accolade indeed!

Maria Chapman, Headmistress of St Peter’s School commended the children, staff and visiting teachers for their dedication and hard work which has resulted in a set of results to be very proud of.
