2015 Cream Tea Season will end with live

The history of Cranford Village Hall started
in 1800 when Sir Frederick, the 9th Baronet
and Rector of both parishes, purchased a
wooden hut and sited it on the corner of the
fi eld opposite the present hall for use as a
reading room and recreational club. The
hall was open every evening from 6pm until
10pm. Newspapers and several games
were housed, and the Hall was highly
successful. Unfortunately, by 1895, two
years after the death of Sir Frederick, the
hut was in a state of disrepair.

The members of the Club felt it would be
a good idea to have a memorial fi tting for
the Hall’s founder and late President, and
suggestions were put forward at a public
meeting where full support was given and
monies raised to have a new hall built. After
various years of struggle until November
1931, a new committee was formed and
allocation of funds were made for repairs
and alterations. A fi nal repayment was
made on a loan in September 1954, and
various fundraising events have ensured
the upkeep of the hall ever since.

Cranford Village Hall has a stage, piano,
committee room, fi tted kitchen and disabled
access. It is suitable for parties, meetings,
weddings, classes and social gatherings.
Rates start at £8/hour for village residents
and regulars, and £10/hour for occasional
bookings.
