Hayfi eld Cross Church of England School

A new primary school will be opening in Kettering this September to ensure the future provision of school places in the local area.

Hayfi eld Cross Church of England School will be the fi rst building on the Kettering East development which, when completed, will comprise 5,500 new homes, four primary schools, a secondary school, parks and business areas. Hayfi eld Cross will be a beacon for the growing development incorporating state-ofthe- art facilities with teaching and resources designed specifi cally around the new National Primary Curriculum and aimed at providing an outstanding education for the children.

It is being opened by the Diocese of Peterborough and Northamptonshire County Council as a Church of England School, bucking the trend of other new schools across the country, as it is not an academy. Church of England Schools nationally perform better than other schools, and Hayfi eld Cross is hoped to be a centre of excellence providing a fi rst class education for the children of the growing community around it.

The Head Teacher, Craig Charteris, was previously the Head Teacher of the highly regarded Trinity CE Lower School in Aldwincle. He brings a vast range of experience to the new school as, alongside his Head Teacher role, he has been supporting schools in diffi culty helping them to improve and been the Chair of the East Northamptonshire Cluster of Schools.

Two Assistant Head Teachers, Jess Hardie and Shelley Priestley, have now been appointed for September, as has Dawn Fraser, the School Business Manager. Initially the school is planning to open with three classes: Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. It is now enrolling children for September in these classes, with additional classes added as the school grows and demand for places increases. The school has facilities for two classes in all year groups from Reception to Year 6, with the following years intake already planned as 60 children. The school buildings construction is progressing at speed and can be seen from the road between Barton Seagrave and Cranford.

M ore information about the school and how to apply for a place, as well as a blog documenting the building project, can be found on the school website hayfi eldcross.org.uk or visit the school Twitter @hayfi eld_cross or Facebook page.
