The Gang Show has a long history. In 1932, a promising London Theatre Producer and Choreographer, Ralph Reader CBE, started to produce an annual variety show to raise money for Scouting funds. The London Gang Show was born! These shows were immensely successful with scenes being included in many Royal Command performances. The format quickly spread throughout the country and indeed the World, with local Scout Groups and Districts staging their own shows to raise money for their own projects. Following formal assessment, the Red Neckerchief became the official recognition for Shows that were successful in reaching the required National standard.
The Kettering Gang Show gained this recognition in 1965 and has been proud to wear the Red Neckerchief ever since. Following years of history and tradition, audiences receive the current shows as enthusiastically today, as they did all those years ago. Many thousands of people have enjoyed the songs, sketches and general family entertainment that the Kettering Gang Show has delivered over the years. The numbers of cast members since the first show is inestimable now, but Cubs have become Scouts, the Scouts and Guides have become Leaders and some of those Leaders have become Producers… the cycle of fun and laughter continues. It has been said that somewhere in the World, a Gang Show takes place on every day of the year. What a tremendous legacy Ralph Reader has left us all!
