Grant for Hall Improvement
Brigstock WI has used the Hall in Park Walk for over 97 years. Over those 97 years, the Hall has been used mostly for WI events. Although small groups have used it in the past, they have left because of the lack of facilities; after all, who would really want to use a hall with no toilet facilities? All that is about to change thanks to The Big Lottery Fund.
Following a lot of hard work by committee members applying for grants, Awards for All, Big Lottery Fund has granted £9,580 to the Hall for a sewerage system. The work will be done by F J Morris Contracting Limited, Towcester, and will commence early 2016. Brigstock WI are grateful to the Big Lottery Fund for making a dream become a reality and is hoping to be equally successful in obtaining another grant from another provider to install the less abled bodied toilet facility.
Once complete, the Hall will be serviceable for all the Brigstock community and surrounding small villages as well as Brigstock WI. The aim is to hold workshops with various crafts and social events for everyone.
2016 will be the year when it can be used, once more, for village activities to complement and run alongside the Village Hall and URC rooms.
Brigstock WI was founded in 1918. Its inaugural meeting was held in the village hall, then just a hut, and the very first committee meeting was in Mauntley House, which has since been demolished. The current WI has 44 members but would welcome more with open arms.
The annual membership fee is £37.50. For details or to join, please call 01536 373672 or 01536 373987
