Lunchtime Concerts Thursdays 7th, 14th, 21st & 28th January and 4th, 11th & 25th February St Peter’s Church, Oundle, 1.15pm On Market Days enjoy our concerts in the beautiful setting of St Peter’s Church. At 1pm we serve homemade soup and bread rolls for £3.50, which is provided by Rachael Kelley of The Little Soup Kitchen. Good company, wholesome food and superb music – surely the perfect line-up.
Wind Concert Friday 22nd January, 7.45pm Great Hall, New Street, Oundle No tickets required Our popular annual concert features many of Oundle’s finest wind players that rehearse so purposefully each week. All are warmly invited to join us for this evening’s concert of vibrant music-making.
Hepburn Music Competition Sunday 24th & 31st January, 11.30am to 9.30pm Great Hall, Cecil Lewis Room, Arthur Marshall Room, Laxton Long Room, Chapel, Stahl. No tickets required The Hepburn Competition is of a magnificent standard and scale. All classes and the Final Concert are open to members of the public.
Classes take place throughout both Sundays and we are fortunate to have a superb lineup of external adjudicators from such revered institutions as the Royal College of Music, London. Friday Night with the Jazz Bands Friday 29th January, 7.45pm St Peter’s Church, Oundle Tickets: £15 for a table seat, £10 for a side seat. Both Oundle School Jazz Orchestras perform on ‘home turf’ for this their first appearance of 2016, after a highly successful tour to the Montreux Jazz Festival last summer. Nearly sold out before going to print. Two further appearances later in the year. Jazz, wine and cheese are part of the line-up of this superb and popular evening. Hepburn Final Concert and Competition Sunday 31st January, 7.30pm Great Hall, Oundle. No tickets required This hotly contested competition draws to a close and we look to the experience of John Moore, the Director of Music at Shrewsbury School to adjudicate and select the Hepburn Winner of 2016.

Simon Smith - Public Masterclass and Concert Thursday 4th February, 7.45pm Great Hall, Oundle. No tickets required Following workshops through the afternoon, movements from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons feature with pupil soloists performing alongside our senior string orchestra in the form of an open Masterclass. The evening concludes with Simon Smith and Angus Gibbon performing JS Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins, BWV 1043 with the senior string orchestra accompanying. A special evening indeed.
Musical Opportunity Concert Wednesday 10th February, 6.15pm Recital Room, Gascoigne Building, Oundle No tickets required Musical Opportunity concerts are treasured moments in which we offer pupils a small audience and safe platform on which to run through new repertoire prior to more demanding settings such as the public concerts and exams. Come and support some nervous performers.
Guitar Madness Thursday 11th February, 7.45pm Stahl Theatre, West Street, Oundle Tickets £10, limited number available to the public. This annual and iconic concert goes from strength to strength, and offers unlimited pleasure for anyone wanting to pump sound through mega amps, play guitar in the spot light or crash out some sound on the cymbals.
We are delighted to move into the Stahl Theatre for what promises to be an evening of sizzling and eclectic offerings from soul to funk and ballads to rock. Tickets from The Stahl Theatre. House Singing Competition – Part Song Sunday 28th February, 3pm Oundle School Chapel Tickets £4, limited number available to the public.
This impressive event conjures up real enthusiasm from pupils across the School as every House fine-tunes arrangements, pitching, diction, choreography, presentation and camaraderie. Leadership skills are everything in the frenzied and covert rehearsals behind the scenes, and fine performances are always a joy to behold as unified Houses burst onto the stage. So good is the Part Song Competition that we are holding just a few tickets in reserve for the public this year, available from The Stahl Box Office.
For further excitement, we have secured Joanna L’Estrange to be our adjudicator, an experienced legend who has worked with stars from across the musical spectrum, from contemporary composers Steve Reich and John Adams to jazz greats John Dankworth and Dave Newton to pop legends Sir Paul McCartney. Joanna is a regular at Abbey Road Studios in London, recording film soundtracks (130 to date - recent credits: Spectre and The Hunger Games) and music for television. Our singing had better be good!
