“Bigger, better, but the same” The weekend of Friday 1st, Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd July sees the second ever KettFest, a spontaneous celebration of local arts, culture and music in the town of Kettering. Spotlighting the good and bringing colour, randomness and excitement to the streets of Kettering and across the time, KettFest is offering free and easily accessible events to all.
Originally KettFest grew from much negativity on social media a couple of years ago. Many locals had nothing positive to say about this small Midlands town, whose High Street is suffering in the same way as many small towns. But over one weekend in June 2015, the organisers managed to bring smiles to the streets of Kettering and tell locals about all the good things that are happening here, encouraging much needed footfall and economic development.
The success of the first KettFest was entirely due to the initiative, enthusiasm and endeavour of a large number of public-spirited individuals who are proud of their town and thrilled with its first event, boosting civic pride, inspiration, energy, all throughout Kettering. The organiser were encouraged last year when KettFest was mentioned in the Houses of Parliament - the importance of such an arts festival bringing the community together. Further unusual links have been developed to celebrate and decorate the town, and the team behind KettFest are so proud of the animal that it has become.
During the first weekend in July, the organisers will, once again, make Kettering colourful with random happenings and unusual sites when pockets of individuals will use the umbrella of KettFest to publicise themselves and support one another.
This community festival will bring a Cosplay promenade and show, Northern Soul night, spoken word, street performers, performance artists, art and yarn bombing, live music, creative writing for all, local author readings and publishing advice, flash mobs, art and photography exhibitions, burlesque dancing, KettFest sausage, local history, KettFest cocktail, busking, meditation, archaeology, local beer, flash singing, electronic sound system, local films on the big screen and much more.
This festival has already had a huge impact on the town and events over the three days are free. Saturday 2nd July is the main day, and there will be free car parking on the day in the town centre but be wary, it will be busy!
