For the past two years, Made In Corby have been creating opportunities to make brilliant new work with amazing artists. In 2014 a local choir, Deep Roots Tall Trees, see page 70, worked with Barb Jungr and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to present a new song cycle for Corby, to great acclaim. In 2015, physical theatre company Frantic Assembly developed a brand new theatre piece with local people, No Way Back.
In 2016, Made In Corby present Danny Hero the musical, a major project in collaboration with Perfect Pitch, a company dedicated to producing new British musicals. Local theatre group CATS initially suggested creating a new musical over two years ago – the idea has since been nurtured with the involvement of many local people throughout the journey. As well as inspiring the storyline and music, local people have also formed a talented cast and creative team under the mentorship of West End professionals from productions such as Billy Elliot and Mamma Mia.
Written by well-known children’s author Timothy Knapman and composer Laurence Mark Wythe, Danny Hero is a heart-warming story of a teenager who lives in his head – a boy lost in his own little world of comic books and stories until he becomes involved in a real world battle to save his community and the people closest to him. Can Danny find his inner superhero? You can find out in October half-term!
If you would like a sneak peek of the show, listen out for a pre-release track on radio and online to get a flavour of what to expect. It’s going to be epic!
Danny Hero premieres at The Core at Corby Cube and runs from Wednesday 26th through Saturday 29th October.
