Walk, print, make - Physical theatre and puppetry - Dance, light, movement - Find the unfamiliar in the familiar - Corby’s myths and landscape - New perceptions through photography - Create magical woodland creatures at night - Dance through the trees - Discover mushrooms - Rediscover your childhood - Sing in the woods - Draw in the woods - Print with leaves!
The above are a few of the things you can do with Deep Roots Tall Trees - the Our Woods project inspired by Corby woods. After DRTT’s successful concert with the Royal Phil Orchestra, the group embraced a new venture, consisting of over 40 events in the different woods of Corby and running from 4th September 2016 to May 2017.
The events are wide-ranging and DRTT hopes everyone will come and take part, enjoy, celebrate and learn about the woodlands in a friendly and safe way. These trees are important to all of us for the future!
September’s events start on Sunday 4th with Spinning New Dreams, a walk to inspire and collect for a workshop the following weekend of printing and stitching. Friday 9th and Saturday 10th will see The Man Who Planted Trees, an event for all the family to tell a story through puppetry and theatre.
Wildwood invites you into the woods at night on Saturday 10th and, on Saturday 17th, have your eyes opened to seeing things in new ways on a walk through King’s Wood. On Sunday 18th, discover the stories from Corby’s past. Photographers will enjoy Natural Vestige, using different ‘looking devices’ to change your perceptions. Sunday 25th will be another evening event for the family to be creative and make their own woodland creatures.
A treasure hunt dance through the trees starts October’s programme on Saturdays 1st and 15th with Walking Stories. In The Lost Art of Mushrooming you can discover them in the morning, eat them at lunchtime and photograph them in the afternoon. Remember when you climbed trees? Adults will be encouraged to relive their childhood in Climbing Trees for Grownups on Saturday 8th and Building Dens and Hide & Seek on Sunday 9th. Acclaimed jazz singer, Barb Jungr, leads a workshop of movement, vocal work and improvisation inspired by the woods on Sunday 16th. Come and draw with respected nature artist, Carry Akroyd in Walking, Looking, Drawing. The final event in October’s programme is a drop-in session Learn to Know and Love Your Leaves for simple and colourful printmaking.
