Oundle Wharf continues to establish itself as a destination retail & dining experience with the introduction of new businesses Aga, Amps Fine Wines and Hambleton Bakery, whose shops now join Errismore Flowers, Gorilla Firm, Nene Extreme Adventures, Nene Valley Brewery and the Tap & Kitchen. With ample parking and a variety of businesses who excel in their own field, the Wharf welcomes all guests seven days a week.
The exquisite new AGA Oundle store was officially opened in November just prior to a very successful Christmas Extravaganza, which saw all the Wharf businesses collectively organise interesting stalls and entertainment. The team at AGA Oundle would be delighted to welcome you to browse their comprehensive selection of AGA’s and enjoy a chat with the knowledgeable and helpful staff.
You will also find a large selection of cookware items on offer, designed for use on conventional cookers and on the AGA’s. Informative monthly AGA demonstrations will be held throughout the year, details of these can be found at www.agaliving.com
Amps Wine Merchants, the fourth-generation independent wine merchant based in Oundle’s Market Street since 1901, has set up a sister shop at the Wharf offering the same friendly and knowledgeable service for which it is famous. Combining a passion for wines of character, often from small independent wineries, with total dedication to the discerning wine drinker, Amps Wine Merchants has a free wine tasting machine to let you try before you buy, and offers late night opening until 7pm from Tuesday to Saturday. www.ampsfinewines.co.uk
Wholesaler and florist Errismore Flowers is open to trade and the public. Flowers are supplied directly from Holland, so you cannot get fresher. In-house florists qualified in all aspects of floral design can arrange bouquets and displays for all occasions and budgets, and you will also find a range of gift items, centrepiece hire, chair covers and balloons at the shop. www.errismoreflowers.co.uk
Opening in March 2016, the Oundle Wharf branch of Hambleton Bakery was the latest of six shops to be established since the bakery first started in Exton in 2008. The other shops can be found in Market Harborough, Oakham, Stamford and West Bridgford. None of the delicious, hand-made artisan products have any additives or preservatives, and the long fermentation methods in the bread making ensure that the bread has superior taste, longer keeping qualities and is easy to digest. You can stock up on chutneys, granolas, honey and jams too. www.hambletonbakery.co.uk
Gorilla Firm Cycling has established itself as one of the best cycling shops in the country with its outstanding service, carefully chosen brands and minute attention to detail. Whether you are looking for an off-the-shelf or a bespoke build, Gorilla Firm aims to ensure that you get the right bike for you. The Guru Bike Fit Studio is situated amongst a wide and easily accessible range of bikes, components, accessories and clothing – any cyclist’s paradise! www.gorillafirmcycling.com
Nene Extreme Adventures offer canoeing and kayaking trips as well as events for schools and businesses. The range of boats includes stable and rugged single kayaks, inflatables and open four-man canoes suitable for families, and can be hired by the hour or by the day. The option to camp overnight makes it perfect for bonding with the kids over the campfire after a beautiful paddle on the River Nene. Alternatively, canoes can be dropped off at designated points along the river and later collected, meaning you need never paddle upstream - the ultimate luxury! Popular summer holiday clubs for kids include canoeing, kayaking, climbing and archery, and you can learn bush craft skills and cook on an open fire. www.neneextreme.co.uk
Nene Valley Brewery produces an extensive range of beers on site. You can have a pint straight from the cask in the brewery shop on Fridays & Saturdays, or buy in bottles, gift sets, kegs, mini barrels, boxes, pins and firkins. Tours are available where you can see the hard work that goes into making award-winning beer, learn how different types of beer are crafted, sample the malted barley and smell the fresh zesty hops. Tutored tasting sessions are also on offer, where you sample a range of beers, and run tours twice a month at £10 per head. Dates depend on demand and staff availability, check the website for details. www.nenevalleybrewery.com
Award-winning Tap & Kitchen serves coffee, lunch & dinner Monday to Saturday as well as an amazing Sunday lunch. Expect to see craft beers, home-baked pastries, home-cured meats, homemade ice creams and everything in between. If you purchase a cake or pastry at Hambleton Bakery you can bring it to the Tap & Kitchen and enjoy it there with your coffee.
There will be a new Oundle Wharf website coming in the New Year but, in the meantime, check out www.tapandkitchen.com and social media @tapandkitchen for news and events at the waterside development.
