Tap Attack & World Championships

Mawsley-based Lily Shaw is without doubt the biggest success story for The Dance Factory.  Now aged 14, Lily started dancing at The Dance Factory from the age of three and was always a lovely dancer in the many disciplines she attends; however, it was her special talent in tap dancing that caught the eye of the principal of the school, Katy Watson-Reid, known as Miss Katy to her students. Lily has worked her way up the ISTD grades, usually as the youngest in her class, and has competed in the All England Dance Festival reaching the regional finals.

On Miss Katy’s suggestion, Lily auditioned for the prestigious dance group ‘Tap Attack’ as they offer intensive training, pushing the next generation of talented tappers to be the best they can.

Although competing against many others, she was successful and has been training with them for the last few months, travelling to Birmingham to be part of the Mid Associate Section. Lily was then offered the chance to audition for the national group who would represent Great Britain in the World Championships in Germany in December.  Once again her talent and determination paid off and she was selected for the Junior Formation Team for Team GB who won Gold.

As such an attentive, determined and talented student, Lily is a great role model to the younger students of The Dance Factory.  Miss Katy trained at Laine Theatre Arts and gained the college’s Tap Award at the end of her final year, so as a great tapper herself she is thrilled to have trained one of her students to this level and hopes to see her progress even further.

Lily will be one of the many stars in the dance school’s show at The Lighthouse Theatre next June. The Dance Factory was founded in 2006 and now runs from three different centres in Kettering and Mawsley.  They offer RAD Ballet, ISTD Tap and Modern, Jazz/Street Dance and Contemporary for girls and boys from the age of 2½ years, all taught by qualified teachers who mostly come from professional dance backgrounds.
