The Kettering Music & Performing Arts Centre (KMPAC) is holding an open morning from 9-12pm at Southfields School, Lewis Road, Kettering NN15 6HE, on Saturday 21st January. The Centre is part of the Northamptonshire Music & Performing Arts Service and centre aims to provide group classes for children age 12months - 18 years in music, dance, drama and musical theatre.

There are lots of classes to choose from - whether you are a beginner or more advanced there is a group for you. For instrumentalists there are brass groups, jazz bands and concert bands for wind and brass players. For string players there are string groups, chamber and folk groups. The Centre also has drums, ukulele, recorders and keyboards and offers acoustic, electric and rock guitars along with two rock groups. The KMPAC also has two choirs including a rock choir.

If you are interested in dance there is ballet, tap, contemporary and street; there is even have a boys only class. Drama classes run throughout the morning. The KMPAC has a massive musical theatre group who are now preparing for the next production: The Boyfriend, which will be performed at The Masque Theatre in Barton Seagrave 22nd & 23rd June. Previous shows include Oliver, Annie and Bugsy Malone.

There are also early years classes for children aged 12 months - seven years in music, dance, musical theatre and ocarina.

The Centre holds concerts each term with a fun day in the summer term. The senior groups perform regularly outside of the Centre at charity and community events. KMPAC also takes part in local and national festivals. Some of their successes include finalists in the 2011 Northamptonshire Anti Bullying competition, students placement and scholarship to the Royal Northern College of Music and, more recently, one of the students won Wicksteed’s Got talent, Northampton’s got talent and Oundle’s Got talent.

The Centre is an Artsaward centre offering students ages 11 upwards the opportunity to work towards their Bronze and Silver award. These awards are run by the Arts Council England and Trinity Guildhall. KMPAC is also a learning destination for the Children’s University of Northampton. Being part of the centre will help build confidence, improve skills, provide a chance to work as a team and gain performance opportunities, as well as making new friends and having lots of fun. So you are all welcome to come along on the 21st January to see what KMPAC has to offer and join in the classes.
