The 2012 Music in Quiet Places series will be held during two of the most beautiful English seasons - early summer and early autumn - and the magnifi cent settings provided by rural churches around Oundle make each concert a special occasion. Over eight concerts, MIQP offers a platform for aspiring young artists and ensembles, alongside renowned musicians - some of whom will be returning due to popular demand!

MIQP is presented by Oundle Music Trust in association with Moore Stephens Financial Services and is supported by Northamptonshire Community Foundation, a local grant giving charity that supports small community and grassroots organisations make a difference to their communities, and also funded by the Arts Council England.

Doors open to all summer concerts at 8pm. Car parking may be found near to the venues, but could be on unlit streets. Rockingham - St Leonard’s Church
Duo Dorado

Baroque specialists Hazel Brooks (violin) and David Pollock (harpsichord) present a vibrant selection of music from across 17th and 18th century Europe. The theme is set by Couperin’s L’Angelique, and Tartini’s famous Devil’s Trill sonata. Other angelic elements by Corelli and Bach combine with the devilish virtuosity of Scarlatti, Handel and Locatelli to create a dazzling and varied programme with dramatic introductions.

With their beautifully decorated harpsichord forming a stunning centerpiece, and the magnifi cent views from St Leonard’s Church in the grounds of Rockingham Castle, the concert will be a feast for the eyes as well as the ears.

Joglaresa
Love in the Time of Unicorns

Joglaresa, the acclaimed medieval ensemble, makes a welcome return to MIQP, with a programme of music about knights, ladies, lovers, nightingales, minstrels and unicorns. Some of the most beautiful medieval melodies are to be found in the courtly love-drenched world of the trouvères. The beautiful church and fi ne acoustics of All Saints & St James will provide a heavenly setting for this concert of music for voice, fi del and harp.

Davis Clarinet Quartet

This brilliant young ensemble presents a varied programme of music, ranging from lyrical beauty to incredible virtuosity, and highlighting the versatility of the medium. Alongside music written specially for four clarinets, the swinging sounds of Gershwin, and Mendelssohn songs, the programme includes spell-binding arrangements of well-known works such as Mozart’s Overture to the Marriage of Figaro, Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, and Debussy’s Clair de Lune. Fresh strawberries on offer during the interval, and a beautiful setting, add to the delights of this concert.

Castalian String Quartet

The Castalian String Quartet was formed in London in 2010 by multi-award winning graduates of the Royal Northern College of Music, Royal Academy of Music and Eastman School of Music, USA. They are rapidly gaining a reputation at festivals and concert halls in the UK and abroad for their ‘phenomenal impact on audiences’. Performing regularly throughout the UK and abroad, the quartet was selected by the British Council to represent the UK in a concert tour of South China last year. They will be performing works by three of the great
masters of string quartet writing:

Haydn - String Quartet in E fl at, Op. 64 No. 6
Shostakovich - String Quartet in F minor, No. 11
Mendelssohn - String Quartet in E minor, Op. 44 No. 2

The four autumn concerts scheduled for September and October will be performed by solo percussionist Toby Kearney, The Harborough Collective & Matthew Sharp string ensemble, classical guitaris Craig Ogden and early music vocal ensemble The Orlando Consort.
