‘The Worlds Biggest Classic Motor Racing Festival’ is what the Silverstone Classic has become over recent years. The fi rst event was held in 1990 and, for several years, known as the Coys Festival in deference to its key sponsor. Nothing had been seen like it before; the historic racing and large number of classic car clubs made it an enthusiasts dream. Then, as the decade went on and events like the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Revival appeared, it lost its way a little before re-establishing itself over the last few years to being the fabulous event it now is.

This year, Silverstone Classic will take place from 26th July through 28th July, and there will be no fewer than 24 races many with massive 58 car grids covering the entire spectrum of historic motor sport.

Highlights include seventy years of Formula One history on the track with the Historic Grand Prix Cars Association providing pre-1961 cars, including types such as Bugattis and ERAs from the 1920s and 1930s to those glorious 1950s machines from Ferrari and Maserati. The new era of 1960s rear engine cars by Lotus, Cooper and Brabham will lead on to the 1970s and 1980s 3-litre machines all in correct period sponsorship liveries. Six different grids will cover Sports and GT cars, and highlights must be the two dusk races on Saturday evening, one for the powerful Group C Le Mans style prototypes from the 1980s and early 1990s, the other being the new Piper Heidsieck International Trophy for pre-1966 GT cars, featuring a packed 58 car grid of types such as AC Cobras, Ferrari 250LMs and lightweight Jaguar E-types.

Other races will include the RAC Tourist Trophy on Sunday for historic GT cars, Historic Sportscar Masters (Le Mans style sportcars up to 1974), the Stirling Moss Trophy (pre-1961 sportscars), RAC Woodcote Trophy (pre-1956 sportscars) There will be three Saloon Car grids covering 40 years of touring car history. The Lotus Cortina will be celebrating 50 years and others, ranging from Alfa Romeos, BMWs and Minis up to Group A Cosworth Sierras from the 1990s, will make for exciting racing, as will the new Trans-Atlantic Touring Car Trophy and its 1960s V8 muscle cars.Apart from Formula One cars, historic Single-Seaters from junior categories will also feature including Formula Ford, Formula Junior, F2 and F5000.

Car Clubs Displays
Such a major part of this event, the car club displays are simply stunning with 79 clubs
and over 8000 cars expected. Celebrations include 100 years of Aston Martin, 50 years
of Lamborghini and 50 years of the Porsche 911. All three will feature on-track parades,
the biggest being 911 Porsche 911s, 100 Aston Martins on the Saturday and Lamborghini displaying more than 100 cars.

There will be live music concerts on Friday and Saturday evenings with The Hollies
performing on Saturday, and tribute bands covering Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, the Eagles and Guns N’ Roses. Add in air displays, hot air balloon fl y-outs, fun fair and lots of shopping opportunities.
