Celebrating classics on the ground and in the air

Celebrate classics on the ground and in the air at the inaugural Sywell Classic – Pistons and Props motoring festival, held at Sywell Aerodrome on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th September. Sponsored by Footman James, this two-day event combines classic cars, motorbikes and planes with all aspects of vintage lifestyle and entertainment.  Classic and historic racing cars will battle it out on the ‘Racing Runway’ to see whose vehicle still has what it takes to win. Classes will include single seaters, sports cars and saloons as well as marque specifi c runs featuring marques such as Ferrari, Porsche, etc. There will also be a ‘classic cruise’ down the runway for clubs to join.

Meanwhile the action on the ‘Sprint Strip’, normally used by airplanes taxiing to the runway, will get heated as vintage and retro dragsters go head to head on the 200-metre straight-line sprint.

Some of the UK’s best classic motoring clubs such as the Austin Counties Car Club, Traction Owners Club, Morgan Sports Car Club, BMW Club, Jowett and Marcos Owners Clubs, Pre 1940 Triumph Motor Club, Porsche Club (Cambs & Beds) and the Classic Camper Club, to name a few, will showcase its vehicles.

Chipmunks, Be2s, Wilgas, Tiger Moths, Extra 300s and Tomahawks are just a few of the iconic planes that will take to the skies as individual owners and clubs fl y into the show and landing on the grass airstrip. There will also be breathtaking aerial displays from Hangar 11’s Spitfi res on Saturday and the Trig Aerobatic Team go airborne with their fast and furious Pitts Special S-1D biplanes on Sunday. The Breitling Wingwalkers, the world’s only aerobatic formation wing walking team, will perform all weekend.  Back on the ground, and live music, a vintage funfair, the Wall of Death, and sideshows will keep families entertained. Music will be provided by all girl harmony group ‘Elle and the Pocket Belles’ and rockabilly band ‘The Hound Dogs’, with more musical acts to be added to the line up.

The Vintage Village will bring together classic traders with those catering for lovers of nostalgia and the vintage lifestyle. As well as the usual motoring products and services, there will be vintage and retro clothing and accessory traders as well as Auto, Aero and Retro Jumbles.
