Jason Lewis:
Explorer and Author
Friday 2nd May, 7.45pm
St Peter’s Church, North Street,
Oundle, PE8 4AL

In 2007, Jason became the fi rst person to circumnavigate the Earth without using motors or sails: walking, cycling, and inline skating fi ve continents, kayaking and pedalling a boat across the rivers, seas, and oceans.

Returning to Oundle by popular demand Jason will be talking about the second part of his trilogy: The Seed Buried Deep.

When adventurer Jason Lewis regained consciousness beside a busy Colorado highway, lower limbs shattered by a hit and run driver, he knew he was lucky to be alive. But would he ever walk again, let alone fi nish crossing North America by inline skates?

So begins part two of The Expedition, a stirring saga of hope, determination, and the kindness of strangers as Jason, taken in by the people of Pueblo, spent nine months in rehabilitation, legs pieced together with metal rods, before returning to the spot he was run
over and continuing on.

The fi rst part of the trilogy Dark Waters was the WINNER of the 2013 Benjamin Franklin Award, Eric Hoffer Award, National Indie Excellence Award, 2012 ForeWord Reviews Book of the Year & Southern California Book Festival Award.

William Fotheringham:
Racing Hard
Tuesday 6th May 2014, 7.45pm
St Peter’s Church,
North Street, Oundle, PE8 4AL

William is coming to Oundle the day before The Women’s Tour sets off from this historic market town. Come and hear about his fascinating career in the cycling world and get into the cycling frame of mind ready for the race. William was a features editor for Cycling Weekly and the fi rst editor of Cycle Sport, before launching the magazine Procycling in 1998.

His fi rst full-length book, Put Me Back on My Bike, was published in 2002 and he has written best-selling biographies of Tom Simpson, Fausto Coppi and Eddy Merckx. Since 1994, William has covered nineteen Tours de France and four Olympic Games, he is currently the Guardian’s cycling editor. He has been at the forefront of cycling journalism for the last twenty years. He has seen, fi rst hand, the passion and human cost of people driven by a will to win, and won the IPC Media Specialist Writer of the Year award in 1993 and 1998.

William will be talking about his latest book, Racing Hard, giving insights into the work of a journalist working on major cycling events, and will be expecting a wide range of questions about cycling topics including the Women’s Tour of Britain, Lance Armstrong, the rise of cycling in Britain and much more. Racing Hard is a collection of work from the Guardian going back to 1994 when William started covering the Tour de France for the paper. Subdivided into two main sections, one on the Tour and the other on Great Britain and the Olympics, with a range of obituaries and a miscellany of not so obvious stuff that encompasses Sean Kelly’s retirement, the Linda McCartney team, and riding the Etape du Tour. He has added notes to every piece, putting each one into context, and in some cases explaining some of the journalistic background.
