Events at Oundle’s Stahl Theatre
Stahl Theatre productions will recommence in with a wonderfully diverse and intriguing selection of productions to include:
Discover the Stahl Friday 9th January, 7pm - Free entry Oundle’s Stahl Theatre on West Street will open its doors for a unique theatrical experience. Members of the public are invited to an event to launch the Stahl’s inaugural season under new Theatre Director, Naomi Jones.
Ever wondered what goes on backstage of your local theatre? Well now is your chance to fi nd out! ‘Discover the Stahl’ is a wonderful opportunity to see all that the Stahl has to off er with staff and pupils on hand to answer all your questions… After the traditional glass of fi zz, guests will be invited to wander round all three fl oors of the old chapel building, happening upon various events as they go.
Entry to ‘Discover the Stahl’ is free. Animal Farm Thursday 15th & Friday 16th January, 7.45pm - Tickets: £5 “All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.” Brought to you by an allfemale Sanderson House cast of Oundle School, Animal Farm is based on the much acclaimed and controversial novel by George Orwell, adapted by Peter Hall. Describing the story of a farm mid-revolution, Animal Farm is a satire on the period of Stalinism and a parable about the consequences of greed and the seemingly impossible ideal of equality.
My Father and Other Superheroes Wednesday 28th January, 7.45pm Tickets: £9.50 Spending most of his life without a father fi gure, Nick realised that Superman, Luke Skywalker and Spider Man (among others) had fi lled that role as he grew up, inadvertently providing the blueprints of how to be a good father. My Father and Other Superheroes follows Nick’s journey – from being smuggled out ofhis home country of Uganda at a young age, to the UK, Saudi Arabia and Kenya - to learn what it takes to truly become a hero. For most of his life, he has been without a father fi gure. With such impossible shoes to fi ll, and a distinct lack of special powers, My Father and Other Superheroes follows Nick’s journey to discover what it takes for a man to become a hero, and ultimately the conclusion that a hero can be just a man. My Father and Other Superheroes is a one-man show that tackles the universal subjects of fatherhood, loss, heroes and hope by innovatively fusing story-telling, physical theatre and contemporary spoken word in a powerful one hour performance. Recommended for adults and young adults over 11.
The Exam Tuesday 10th through Thursday 12th February, 7.45pm - Tickets: £5 Exam time. Three pupils fi nd themselves holed up in the same exam hall, waiting for their papers to arrive. As the wait lengthens, each has to survive a powerful barrage of self-doubt, parental pressure and adult incompetence. Writt en by Andy Hamilton, a regular team member on Have I Got News for You, The Exam off ers an often hilarious yet thoughtprovoking look at the considerable pressures facing pupils today.
Playland Tuesday 24th February, 7.45pm Tickets: £9.50 New Year’s Eve. An amusement park. Two strangers meet in the dead of night. Welcome to Playland… Set in the heart of rural South Africa, Playland is a gripping, comic and deeply moving account of a country in the grips of an Apartheid regime. Writt en by Athol Fugard - one of the world’s most performed playwrights - and performed by New Perspectives. Suitable for 16+ years. Contains strong language and descriptions of a violent and sexual nature.
