Dear Reader

As the trees are ablaze with glorious colours and bountiful bushes bring food to birds and wildlife, it is time to acknowledge that the festive season will soon be upon us and that we should start to embrace the Christmas spirit.

Fundraising is essential for our many village charities, and there is an abundance of craft and gift fairs, Christmas tree and angel festivals and wonderful concerts that will take place over the months to come, fulfilling the dual purpose of raising money for good causes and getting us in a festive mood.

Late night shopping will take place in our market towns, see pages 14-15, 20-25 and 43 for inspiration, and many of our country houses will have traditional Christmas festivals, fairs and celebrations in which we can take part.  There are several wreath-making workshops on offer as well, so you can relax for a couple of hours, enjoy being creative plus welcome your friends and family with a personal touch on your front door at the same time.

The Pickled Shop in Bulwick, see page 32, can deliver the Christmas spirit on your behalf, and award-winning Saxby’s Cider, see pages 8-9, has kindly offered a twelve-bottle case and t-shirt for readers of Village Connect to celebrate their latest success and opening of their new shop.  In the pages ahead, you will find everything for your seasonal requirements, from Christmas meals at our fabulous local pubs and restaurants, fine foods and fire logs to keep you warm, to present ideas from our independent shops.

In times of political uncertainty and financial unsettlement, it is even more important that we support each other, shop locally and embrace the community in which we live.  Charity starts at home, and the true spirit of Christmas is love for your family, friends and neighbours.
With my warmest wishes for a Merry Christmas
