November and December Events at Oundle’s Stahl Theatre

The season will continue with:

The Women
by Clare Boothe Luce
Friday 1st November
7.45pm Tickets: £5

A vibrant and entertaining commentary on Manhattan’s women of the 1920s, The Women chronicles what happens when the wealthy battle it out to be the socialite of the season. Mary Haines’ husband, Stephen has an affair, that is published in a gossip magazine, with Crystal. After hearing, two years and a divorce later, that Crystal has since been unfaithful to Stephen,
Mary plots to expose her in a bid to win him back. This social satire will have you in fits over its outrageous New York high flyers.

Performed by a talented cast from Wyatt House under the direction of pupil Lily Morrish-Postlethwaite.

Mess
China Plate presents Caroline Horton and Company
Monday 18th and
Tuesday 19th November

Josephine is putting on a play - Boris and Sistahl help. It’s about anorexia, but don’t let that put you off. Unflinchingly, they confront big issues (and extremely tiny ones). Today they will tackle a particularly thin elephant in the room. Obsession, addiction and not wanting to get out of bed: a play with songs from 2013 Olivier Award nominated Caroline
Horton (You’re Not Like Other Girls Chrissy).

2012 Stage Award Winner for Best Ensemble. Touring in association with Beat (the UK’s leading charity supporting people with eating disorders). Developed with the help of experts from King’s College London’s Institute of Psychiatry.

Triggered@Warwick. Funded by a Wellcome Trust Arts Award.
Commissioned by Battersea Arts Centre and Parabola Arts Centre. Supported by Ovalhouse, London.

Arcadia by Tom Stoppard
Thursday 5th, Friday 6th and Saturday 7th December
7.45 pm Tickets: £6
An Oundle School Production

In Sidley Park, Derbyshire, in 1809, Thomasina Coverly proves at thirteen far brighter than her tutor, Septimus Hodge. Lady Croom, Thomasina’s mother is busy having her park landscaped by Mr Noakes. Mr Noakes is busy spying on Septimus who is dallying with Mrs Chater, the wife
of an indifferent poet, in the gazebo. And Lord Byron is staying for the week end. In the present day, Hannah and Bernard, two academics, try to make sense of what happened all those years ago. Was there a scandal? Who exactly was the Sidley Park hermit? And how far ahead of her time could the prodigy Thomasina have been?

Tom Stoppard’s witty and fiercely intelligent play examines Physics, sex (‘the attraction Newton left out’) and the landscape with verbal brilliance and dramatic daring. A talented cast of Sixth Form pupils brings a play that has come to be regarded as a peak in British post-war drama to The Stahl in a production directed by Ali Boag and designed by Ali Dean.
This amateur production of Arcadia is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French Ltd.
