Following the success of last year’s event, a host of new writers and performers have been lined up for Earls Barton Literary Festival, which is being held on the 8th and 9th June – with a return for some of last year’s most popular guests. Mark Carey will headline the Saturday evening with a repeat performance of his one-man show, Into the Breach, which went down so well last year, while James Hornsby will be performing Oliver Twist, a follow-up to two previous appearances in Earls Barton when audiences enjoyed A Christmas Carol and, at our first literary festival, Great Expectations. Another new addition will be “Interesting Lives” where enigmatic personalities with tales to tell will share their experiences, which will be headlined by Steve Pateman, linked to a showing of “Kinky Boots”, where he shares stories about the making of the successful film. You also have the opportunity to meet one of the original Calendar Girls. Tricia Stewart who was Miss October, will be talking and answering questions about the WI, calendar-fundraising and the subsequent film, where she was played by Helen Mirren. For fans of books, stage and screen the opportunity to meet these two celebrities will be unmissable, and tickets will sell fast. A new format is “Crime In The Conservatory” which will take place in the conservatory at Jeyes of Earls Barton, crime writers including Louise Jensen, Darren O’ Sullivan, Jane Isaac and Greta Mulrooney, will discuss the art of writing crime thrillers - just don’t ask them “Who did it?” Fans of Northampton Radio will have the chance to meet the entertaining presenters Bernie Keith and Andrew Radd who will formally open the festival, before they engage in conversation as the first featured speakers. There will also be a workshop dedicated to supporting aspiring writers, and a featured bookshop, Oundle Bookshop. The events are being sponsored by Business Times, Jeyes of Earls Barton, Howes Percival Solicitors and Home Instead, and will be held in venues in the centre of the village, including two of the churches and the library. |
