The Colonic Clinic in Market Harborough, the fi rst one in town, has generated a lot of interest since opening its doors in September last year. Karen Dilley set up the clinic, which can be found at 10 The Square (next to Cooper Estate Agents), and sees clients with a wide range of health issues including constipation, IBS, bloating, gas, abdominal discomfort, skin conditions and allergies. While studying fasting and cleansing programmes at a college in London many years ago, Karen became interested in bowel health and its importance for our overall wellbeing. The more she learnt about it the more she understood how just a few simple changes in our habits can lead to big improvements to our health and how we feel. Colonic hydrotherapy is a very simple way of exercising, toning, reshaping and rehydrating the muscles of the colon. It also clears away accumulated waste and toxins and supports our natural cleansing process. The digestive system is the most important system in the body Colonic hydrotherapy can be traced back to 1500 BC when the ancient Egyptians performed colonics in a river with a hollow reed. In more recent times naturopaths, Hippocrates and Galen promoted its use and today colonic hydrotherapy is practiced in many hospitals throughout the world. The world-renowned practitioner, Milo Siewert, Doctor of Medicine and Chiropractic, introduced Colonics to the UK in the 1980s. Milo has been practicing natural medicine for 50 years and still works as a naturopath. He served on the board of the General Naturopathic Council and founded the Association of Registered Colon Hydrotherapists (ARCH).
