Elinor Holiday Cottages are a fantastic luxury 2012 conversion of redundant farm buildings set next to a trout lake near Aldwincle, with some of the best unspoilt scenery in rural Northamptonshire.

There are two self-catering cottages, both set on the ground fl oor, ideal for disabled access. ‘Kingfi sher’ is a three-bedroomed unit with master en-suite, twin and single bedrooms. There is also a family bathroom, kitchen diner and large lounge with French doors onto the patio. ‘Dragonfl y’ is a two-bedroomed unit with a large double and twin bedroom and a family wetroom.

The cottages are located outside Aldwincle, halfway between the market towns of Oundle and Thrapston and access by major roads is excellent. The location is ideal for walking, cycling, canoeing, fi shing (fl y) or just plain relaxing. The cottages are the latest development from entrepreneurial farming couple Tim and Beverley Hankins, who have undertaken a series of projects over the years to help survive the lows in farming revenue as Peartree Farm is not big enough to sustain the family on farming alone.

The bed & breakfast side of the family business fi rst started over 30 years ago with just one room being let by Tim’s mother. This then expanded to three rooms in the farmhouse all being made into en-suites. In 1993, the fi rst of the stable conversions took place with the remaining block being developed over the next few years with fi nal completion in 2004. This now means that there are seven rooms available for bed & breakfast at Peartree Farm. The conversion of the old milking parlour began in January 2008 with the Tearoom opening on the May Bank Holiday that year.

The Tearoom has evolved from selling just cakes & sandwiches into a fully functioning restaurant serving hot food seven days a week, with its traditional Sunday roasts proving extremely popular.

The idea of converting the redundant buildings into self-catering holiday cottages has taken over fi ve years. Planning and fi nance has been an extensive task, helped with grants and European funding through Leader + program for rejuvenation of the countryside, funding without which the project would not have happened.

The actual building work for Elinor Holiday Cottages took place during the months from September 2011 until July 2012, with a very cold January and wet May/June. Tim and Beverley are extremely proud of the resulting two cottages and have had their fi rst lets already.
