Northamptonshire’s fi rst Gluten Free Christmas Food Fair will be held at Orlingbury Village Hall on Saturday 8th December between 2 and 5pm. The event is being organized by local dietitian, Nicola Walpole, who will be running the London marathon in April 2013 for Coeliac UK, a National Charity supporting people with coeliac disease.

Nicola specializes in gastroenterology and renal disease and is passionate about improving the availability of specialist foods for people following special diets. Although the range of gluten free foods in supermarkets and health foods shops is improving, availability and variety can vary.

Gluten free food can also be expensive, so purchasing a specialist food only to realize that you dislike the taste can be frustrating. Christmas is typically a time where we tend to indulge in treats; however, sourcing tasty gluten free alternatives for foods such as sausage rolls, mince pies, Christmas cakes, stuffi ng, quiches and pizzas can be difficult.

Nicola has arranged for a large range of gluten free companies from all over the UK to attend including local companies Clare’s Cakery and Daily Bread Cooperative. This provides an excellent opportunity to taste new products and stock up on a wide selection of delicious foods for Christmas and New Year.

Entertainment at the food fair will include a brass band and carol singers. Gluten free beer tasting is planned, together with a licensed bar, gluten free cakes, a plant stall and lots of gluten free raffl e prizes. Nicola will also be available to answer any questions you may have about coeliac disease and a gluten free diet. Entrance is £2 which includes a Glutafi n goody bag.

All proceeds donated to Coeliac UK.
