Beer & Music Festival

With Family Fun Day

Saturday 7th September 2013

Walgrave’s very own Groove On The Green attracts more and more interest every year; last year it is estimated that over 1,000 people attended. The beer festival is gaining a reputation with over 20 real ales on sale and this year will see some traditional ciders on sale as well; highlights include: St Austell Tribute, Great Oakley Wagtail, Hopping Mad Balmy Days, Pot Belly Craze Daze. For all those non-beer drinkers a bar is also available selling lagers, wine, Pimm’s and soft drinks.

The live music, throughout the day and evening, continues to go from strength to strength, with the afternoon seeing many young artists performing and the evening having larger bands which get the audience dancing the night away! This year’s headline bands are Aeorosoul and Grounded, supported by Badly Kept Fish, The Rood, Treadmill Sidewalk, Nicole, Happy Fridays, Becca, James and Steve, Jess Meadows and Fraser Hornby.  The day also includes a free afternoon fun day, supported by local groups and charities, including Muddy Boots Preschool, Walgrave St. Peter’s Church, Broughton Scout Group, and Walgrave Village Hall. These groups run their own stalls and money they raise is kept for their own charity/group. Stalls this year include: Bouncy Castle, Coconut Shy, Welly Wanging, Guess the Wine, Teddy Tombola, Tombola, Hunt the Straw, Pick a Card, Gifts for the Home, Heads and Tails and Glow Sticks.

It is not too late to get involved and raise money for your charity/group/good cause and have some fun at the same time. Please contact either Tom Parker on 01604 781919 or David Cockayne on 01604 780160, for more information and to reserve your stall. Stalls will be available on a first come, first serve basis.  Refreshments are also available throughout the day with a barbeque, hosted by Muddy Boots, and the tea and cake stall hosted by Walgrave St. Peter’s Church.

Groove On The Green is coordinated by an organising committee who is always looking for new members and supported by The Jubilee Trust, who also coordinate the funds raised. Last year, over £10,000 was raised for various village groups.  This year, the main effort is to raise funds to redevelop the playground area and equipment.

So come and join in the fun on Saturday September 7th. The day starts at 1pm and is free until 5.30pm. After 5.30pm entry is £5 (under 12’s are free).
