Two new initiatives that mark the start of a new and exciting fundraising future are being launched by Cynthia Spencer Hospice. With effect from 1st April, the two charities that have supported the County’s much loved hospice for several decades between them - Friends of Cynthia Spencer Hospice and Cynthia Spencer Charitable Trust - have merged to become just one charity. The news of the merger follows months of discussions about how best to pool the two charities’ expertise and knowledge to become one strong, streamlined fundraising body, fi t for the challenges and changes of the 21st Century.

To celebrate the merger the new charity, which will be known as Cynthia Spencer Hospice Charity, is launching a brand new countywide hospice lottery. The lottery is being administered by St Helena Hospice in Colchester, and is expected to help Cynthia Spencer Hospice charity raise £500,000 over the next fi ve years. With 86 guaranteed prizes to be won
each week ranging from £10 to £1,000, there is also a chance to win a weekly £250 rollover prize which could go up to £10,000. Each number played costs just £1 per week, which can be paid by direct debit for as little as £4.34 per month.

Also, players will not need to check their numbers as if they win they will simply receive a cheque in the post and, by working in collaboration with the other hospices, overheads and costs will be kept to a minimum so more funds can be used to support patients and their families in the community.

This year the new Cynthia Spencer Hospice Charity will need to raise in excess of £700,000 to help maintain the current excellent standard of care and services the Hospice provides to its patients and their families. As well as sustaining the current service the new Charity will be working closely with Cransley Hospice Trust to increase community based support to  patients in their own homes.
