Spring has sprung! At least I hope it has
- as I am writing this it is still winter,
where I considered building an ark, such
was the volume of precipitation falling
from the skies above.

How I longed for those crisp, frosty, sunny
mornings over the Christmas and New
Year break, when you get back from
walking the dog unmuddied.

This year, every walk saw us and the dog
having to hose our feet before entering
the house - not much fun for any of us,
but at least we were in wellies unlike poor
Mack the Labrador who was just caked in
mud from underbelly down!

Still, onwards and upwards, like the little
daffodils poking their heads through the
soil.

I try not to make New Year’s resolutions,
as I find it depressing when I can’t keep
them, instead I make ‘affirmations’, which
admittedly is pretty much the same thing.
My affirmations for this year included
getting fitter, drinking less but better,
seeing more live music, and attending
more car shows with our classic car.

With regards to the car, we went to the
Oundle Sprint, have plans to do the Stilton
Run on 24th April and will hopefully attend
Cars & Stripes at Rockingham Speedway
on 2nd and 3rd July.

As for live music, I haven’t booked
anything yet, but the Flashback Festival
at Rockingham Castle on 9th and 10th
July has attracted my interest. Artists
booked to appear include Billy Ocean,
Soul II Soul, T’Pau, Kim Wilde, the Bay
City Rollers and Heaven 17, to name but
a few. Being a fan of 1980s music, this is
right up my street, but I could do with the
addition of a-ha or The Communards to
the line-up to make it complete!

With regards to drinking less but better,
I successfully completed ‘dry January’,
which was surprisingly easier than I
thought. Definitely worthwhile after the
festive season’s excesses.

Now, if I could just increase my fitness
levels… better stop typing and get
walking! Thanks for reading - you can read
more from me weekly in the Northants
Telegraph, and on my blog.
