The 2018 Oundle Food Festival, an annual feature in food lovers’ diaries, promises to be bigger and better than ever.  The highlight of the Festival is the very popular street market, which falls this year on Saturday 23rd June, when over 75 of the region’s finest independent food, drink and kitchenware producers fill the town’s Market Place and New Street.  The market offers a chance to meet people who grow, raise, bake, brew, distil and make the range of treats on sale and to find out about their crafts.

Seasoned Festival attendees will be delighted to hear that many of the fabulous stallholders from previous years are returning.  This year’s gathering will also welcome some newcomers who include Northamptonshire sparkling wine producers Painter’s Vineyard and craft cider makers Healey’s of Winwick, Lincolnshirebased Jorge’s Artisan Foods who sell infused oils, balsamics and fig cake to accompany cheese and The Artisan Honey Company who sell delicious locally produced honey, propolis and beeswax products.  Nottinghamshirebased Hartland Pies will be serving up a selection of pies and Scotch eggs and Cambridgeshire’s Kingfisher Chilli will add a bit of spice to the day with their range of chilli based-products

The Oundle Fringe Festival will provide yet another hugely enjoyable programme of music and dance, which includes the ever popular Appalachian dance groups Tap n Sync and Kickstart, folk groups Tourdion and The Gathering, shanty singers The Lincolnshire Poachers, the Wansford Ukulele Folk and Michelle Murray’s Highland Dancers. Family entertainment from Corby’s Balls Up Juggling Club and the Nene Valley Festival crew, as well as Oundle’s first ever, highly competitive, adrenalin fuelled Grand Snail Race, will make the street market a great family day out with a fantastic atmosphere.  To top it all - admission is free!

The Oundle traffic will be busier than usual on the day of the street market.  Visitors are encouraged to check the website or social media on the day before to plan their route and decide upon the best place to park.  It is usually easiest to head to the field next to the Tap and Kitchen restaurant at Oundle Wharf, (postcode PE8 4DE) from where people can take a minibus service, provided by Oundle School, to the town centre.

The 2018 Festival is sponsored by the Hambleton Bakery and AGA Oundle.  Their shops at Oundle Wharf can be visited en route to the market, or their stalls can be sought out on arrival.  Oundle’s town centre boasts a wealth of shops, cafes and eateries which will also be open for business on the day. Whilst the street market is the flagship event of the Oundle Food Festival, there will also be events and offers which celebrate the region’s food and drink running throughout the weeks preceding it.

These include a ‘fizz & pizza’ evening and a wine tasting festival held by Amps Wine Merchants, a tour of the Nene Valley Brewery, and demonstrations and book signings at AGA Oundle which include an fundraising event for the NSPCC – a chance to try Chinese canapés created by the awardwinning chef Kwoklyn Wan, perfectly paired with wine from Amps. Throughout June many local shops will be running Food Festival offers.

These include 10% off certain beef cuts from Oundle’s butchers Trendalls and Seven Wells, a free loaf with a spend of over £10 at Hambleton Bakery’s shop, and 10% off purchases during June at Oundle’s Aladdin’s cave of kitchen items, StuPots, which also happens to be celebrating its 25th birthday this year.  All retailers request that a Food Festival flyer, available from the Oundle Box Office, is shown to secure the deal.
