Hello and welcome to the May and June column about Our Corner of Northamptonshire.

There’s lots happening in the county over the next couple of months, but here are some events which have particularly caught my eye:

Step back in time:  If you’re a fan of all things retro, head to Oundle for The Oundle Vintage Festival on Saturday 18th May.  Running from 10am until 4pm in Oundle Town Centre and Market Place, there will be music all day on the festival stage, an antiques fair, fairground rides, tower tours, farm machinery, classic cars and cycles, a food court, mini railway and children’s entertainers.

Entry is free, with all monies raised going towards the Church clock repair fund.  For details please visit

Saddle up:  Once again the county warmly welcomes the worldwide horsey-set when they descend en masse upon Rockingham Castle for the Fairfax and Favor Rockingham International Horse Trials running from Friday 17th to Sunday 19th May.  Or for those who’d like to do a bit of ‘time travelling’, the castle is hosting a Jousting and Medieval History Village on Sunday 16th June.  For more information, please visit www.rockinghamcastle.com

Get on your bike:  The Gretton Charity Sportive is taking place on Saturday 15th June.  This fundraising cycling event - now in its second year after a phenomenally successful debut - is for The Travers Foundation, a Northamptonshire-based volunteerled charity which helps 13-30 year olds improve their skills in sports, creative and performing arts.

Starting at 9am from the Recreation Ground on Kirby Road, the Sportive gives cyclists the opportunity to ride either a 30 mile or 64 mile route around the fabulous Northamptonshire/Rutland countryside.  For more details visit

Whatever you’re doing, have a great time and see you for the summerscorcher issue in July and August!

Thanks for reading - you can read more from me weekly in the Northants Telegraph, and on my blog.
