The Barn Garden Centre in Oundle marked its tenth anniversary by opening its Boxwood Café at the end of May.  The purpose-built Boxwood Café has 60 covers indoors with a lots of available outdoor seating in which to enjoy the sunshine.  The chef is currently developing the full menu, focusing on local produce and suppliers including free-range sausages are from H Johnson & Sons and marmalade, preserves, chutney and honey from Nature’s Fayre Chutney, both based in Thrapston.  The current smaller menu includes mushrooms and feta on toast for breakfast, open prawn and rocket sandwich for lunch or the signature Boxwood Tuna Sandwich: tuna, red onion and coriander in crème fraîche, served with dressed leaves and homemade coleslaw.  You will also find freshly made coffee, pots of tea and a mouthwatering range of cakes, homemade scones baked daily sweet deserts to tempt you.

The Barn Garden Centre is run by Paul & Stephanie Wilson, who live on site with their three children Noah, Finn and Emilia, plus cockapoo Stanley.  The original ‘Barn’ was set up in Peterborough by Paul’s parents, David & Maureen.  The family business expanded from the old tin ‘barn’ at the family home onto various sites, and Paul joined them in 1998.

Having always prided itself on the quality of plants and its friendly, welcoming staff, the Barn Garden Centre offers a large range of garden sundries from pots, plant supports, fertilisers, lawn feed and weed killers.   There is a huge range of seeds, a recently expanded houseplant area, garden tools, outside furniture, wild bird care, and books and greetings cards too.  Outside, you can find compost, stone and ornaments, as well as huge range of plants encompassing three sides of the main building.  A recently added poly tunnel offers protection to customers and plants alike in both hot and cold temperatures.
