Hello, and welcome to September - Autumn’s here!
As you can probably tell, I love Autumn. We often have glorious weather during these months - sadly when the children have gone back to school in their jumpers and blazers and they don’t get to enjoy it until after lessons or at the weekends.
But still, there’s lots happening. If, like me, you love trees, nature and the arts, you’re going to be interested in the latest venture from local choir Deep Roots Tall Trees (DRTT).
‘Our Woods’ is a new and ambitious outdoors arts project running from 1st September 2016 through to 31st May 2017, and is a festival of over 40 exciting events designed to encourage people to come together and share the magic of the woodlands of Corby through song, dance and light.
The woods surrounding Corby are part of the ancient Rockingham Forest, and there are many romantic myths and legends associated with them. In recent times in contemporary Corby, people have reclaimed the woods and have protested to save them from being lost to urban development.
International singer Barb Jungr, choreographer Neil Paris and international sound and light artist Kurt Laurenz Theinert are involved with this project which will commission professional dance, music, spoken word, visual and performance artists to work with local people, leading to a new series of songs written by Barb and DRTT.
The work will culminate with a performance of ‘Dreaming Our Woods: Festival Finale’ on 5th, 6th and 7th May 2017, and the lasting legacy of the project will be a new creative walking tour of Corby.
